Captures the essence of the times in her diary chapters where she conveys a vivid picture of the Mexican ranche life of almost two hundred years ago. n 1892 she and her husband David Harkness McKellar moved from New Zealand to a ranche in Mexico named Las Rucias one of several ranches that comprised the 247,195 acre Hacienda del Naciminto, twelve miles north of Santa Rosa de Sierra Hermosa (now Melchor Muzquiz), Coahuia, Mexico. Two years later in a dispute with other ranches over fencing he was murdered. President Diaz had the episode thoroughly investigated. Margaret McKellar would later moved with her daughters to San Antonio, Texas She died in North Carolina in 1923. Scarce printing edited and made into this fascinating history by San Antonio author Dolores Latorre, from the authors original work.
