London: J. Dodsley, 1776. Second edition. Hardcover. Very good. Susanna Dobson's first work, an abridgment of J. F. A. de Sade's Mémoires pour la vie de François Pétrarque. Two volumes. 8vo, frontispiece, xxx, 544pp, Index; 556pp, Index. Contemporary calf with gilt decorated spine, compartments and raised bands. Burgundy spine label, quite rubbed on Volume I, so that title is barely legible, also rubbed at spine ends. Volume II spine slt rubbed; volume number chipped away. Heraldic bookplate of Sir William Curtis inside front covers. Sir Curtis was the successful son of a ship biscuit manufacturer, referred to as Sir Billy Biscuit by satirists; he was Lord Mayor of London in 1795. OCLC: 2403718.
