Ambrose Burnside was a notable American politician and Civil War general from Rhode Island. During the civil war, he led many of the battles on the Confederacy including Antietam, First Bull Run, and Fredericksburg. Author Perley Poore published an important biographical sketch of Burnside entitled 'The Life and Public Services of Burnside'.
