About This Item
Synopsis
The Little House is the title of a 1942 book written and illustrated by Virginia Lee Burton.
Reviews
I have loved this book since my own childhood. Its story develops themes of urban sprawl and its impact, on beneficial aspects of rural life, and on family commitment to choosing and working for what amounts to preserving traditions that protect open space, farms, homes, and health. But the story never loses its small-view perspective, readily available to a child's eye and sensibility, presented in simple, charming illustrations. It was a worthy Caldecott winner (1943).
