New York: Robert Carter. 1860. First US Edition. Hardcover. 12mo, original blue cloth, sides decorated in blind, spine gilt lettered, cream endpapers. pp (2), iv, (5)-355, (4) + frontispiece and 5 other plates. Book a bit leaned, with spine ends frayed and wear to outer corners; light spotting to covers; 17 April, 1860, ink gift inscription and corner crease on front free endpaper, tan soil spot to front pastedown; short crease to first two plates; foxing in text, typical of American books of this period; in all, a good, tight copy, hinges not cracked. A book for children previously published London, 1855. .

For direct orders, prices will be converted to equivalent Canadian dollars at the prevailing rate of exchange on day of order and shipping is extra at cost. For shipments to a Canadian address, HST is extra (5% on book price, provincial rate on shipping). We accept payment by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, international money order, cheque (Canada and US only). For credit card orders, the US dollar total will be converted to Canadian dollars at the prevailing daily rate. All items are guaranteed to be as described and authentic, and any item may be returned for a full cash refund including cost of return shipping (post office only) if it is felt to be not as described. We specialize in literary books, particularly Canadian literary books (we have handled more out of print and rare Canadian literary books than anyone else in history). We also have select out of print, scarce, and rare books in a variety of subject areas. We were founded in 1974. We do appraisals for a fee and welcome wants lists.
