About This Item
London: George Routledge and Sons. Very Good. 1889. Hardcover. Nice decorated front and back, red cloth with bright gilt on the cover. 439 pp + 4 page publisher catalogue. With Forty-nine illustrations by A. W. Cooper and eight full-page plates by Sir John Gilbert, R.A. Overall a nice copy. The board edges are rubbed and cover dull. The binding is tight; there is moisture stain along the fore-edge and light foxing scattered throughout. The Little Savage is a part of Frederick Marryats collection of adventure novels, beloved by the likes of Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway. The story centers on Frank, a young boy who has been stranded on a desert island with his father's murderer. Growing up on the island away from civilization and receiving brutal treatment from the murderer, Jackson, Frank acts like a "savage". Frank eventually overthrows Jackson and the book follows his experience of becoming civilized. ; 8vo .
