New York: McClure, Phillips & Co, 1904. First Edition. Octavo. Signed by the author and with the bookplate of Frederick W. Skiff. Skiff was a collector and bibliophile. He amassed one of the most important private libraries in the United States, with particular emphases on literature and history.181pp., illustrated with 8 plates, bound in a green pictorial cloth designed by William James Jordan [fl. 1889-1914] and binding signed with his initials WJ. A fine bright copy with light bumps to two corners. The story of General Forrest, a young soldier who is ordered to capture a Federal scout named Leroy who has succeeded in outwitting the Confederates. The scout turns out to be none other than a fascinating young woman with whom her captor speedily falls in love. A lovely copy.
