Heavy sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall.

Could have been a library book (signs of ripped out ticket holder and plate on front end papers, but no other signs). In very good olive green cloth boards, gilt titles to back strip. The covers are very clean, tight and straight and are not the original. Clean off-white replacement end papers. Tanned cut edges. The text block is original from publisher; a little worn; tightly bound; some pages slightly wrinkled; sporadic foxing. Very good condition. No annotations or dedications. Without jacket.

Condition of text (other than first two pages) is g to vg.

There is a damp stain on the front and rear boards and the edges of pages. No interruption of the text. Pages 450 and 451 show fading; the result of a piece of paper being left in the book. There is light foxing throughout. Gifted 1882 on the first free page back. The "Chandos Classics". 588 pages.
