About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1976. First printing. 157 pp., 8vo. Cloth in illustrated dust-jacket. Very faint foxing to endsheets and light shelfwear, otherwise very good in a bright, unclipped jacket with light edgewear and a couple of small closed tears.

An early book by the prolific and irrepressible Pinkwater, considered by some to be his best. Copies of the first printing in anything like decent condition are extremely scarce; this copy is close to fine, and humorously inscribed on the halftitle by the author.

Synopsis

Daniel Pinkwater has written about one hundred books, many of them good. Lizard Music was almost the first one he wrote, and remains his personal favorite. It is entirely his own work, and the story that it was discovered as a manuscript inserted in a bale of banana leaves, probably to increase the weight, is merely legend, and without foundation in fact.

About Passages Bookshop

Passages Bookshop stocks fine, rare, and unusual books and graphic art, with a concentration on modern and contemporary literature and art (particularly poetry and the avant-garde), artist's books, fine printing, and the book arts. The successor to New York City's Bridge Bookshop (late 1980s), Passages opened in Albuquerque in 1994 and relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1997. In November of 2015 we moved to a new retail shop and gallery centrally located in Portland's east side, two blocks north of the convention center, where we are typically open Thursday through Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, as well as by appointment or chance.
