"Really intense and progressive people count the calories in carrots and the vitamins in veal and advise us to live on raw cabbage.This book is not for them,but for the bad lots who openly admit that they like the pleasures of the table and who enjoy life".

A very good copy in an attractive contemporary leather binding. Half black morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt decoration. Compartments double ruled and lettered in gilt. Red title label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Morocco grained cloth on boards. Coated yellow endpapers. All edges gilt. A lovely copy.:

Bright, clean covers and spines; covers showing some very light scuffing, spines are intact with some surface crackling lines; joints are sound, leather remains supple; tightly bound; both volumes with owner name and date (1899) on front fly leaf; some foxing on frontis tissue and title page in vol 1; interiors very clean and bright. Tan morocco title label with gilt, lettering, ruling and leaves. Smaller label has "Oxford" within gilt ruling. Beige cloth on boards. Top edge gilt. Previous owners five line inscription from1919, written neatly in ink on front free endpaper. .A very good, bright copy.

Mathews; Boston, Copeland & Day, 1895, 8vo, pp. xi, 116; orig. iron blue paper boards, lettered dark blue at the spine. - Second (first 'trade') edition, limited to 750 copies for England and America, which was preceded by an issue of 25 copies signed by the poet. - Printed on handmade paper at the Chiswick Press under the supervision of Herbert Horne, who also provided a striking red and black title-page. - Very slight wear (chipping) at the extreme ends of spine; top edge dusty; a pale brownish stain on endpaper and prelims., not touching printed areas. Otherwise, and in general effect, a very nice copy of a scarce Nineties title, with a bookplate (C.C.
