The thirteenth impression of The Fellowship of the Ring, 1963; the tenth impression of The Two Towers, 1963; and the eleventh impression of The Return of the King, 1965. All with foldout colour maps to the rear. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien's 1937 fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling novels ever written, with over 150 million copies sold. Condition: In red cloth bindings with gilt title detailing to the spines; the Fellowship and the Two Towers with unclipped dust wrappers, and the Return of the King with no dust wrapper. Externally, generally smart with light rubbing in places; all volumes have some shelfwear, with bumping to the extremities, and some marks. The Two Towers has a tidemark to the bottom right of the front board. The dust wrappers are bright, with some closed tears and some loss to the extremities, and a few marks. The hinges of all volumes are very slightly strained. Internally, the bindings are generally firm although strained in places. The pages are bright and clean with only scattered spotting and a few handling marks; the Fellowship in particular has some marks to the endpapers. Overall: VERY GOOD with GOOD dust wrappers..
