About This Item

Guayaquil: Publicacion del Museo Victor Emilio Estrada. Near Fine. 1957. First Edition. Hardcover. No. 3; 82 pages; Clean and secure in binding with brown cloth spine & corners over tan boards. Illustrated with many photographs and drawings and a folding map and a folding chart. Text in Spanish. Illustrations by Jorge Enrique Swett. The Huancavilcas or Guancavilcas (600 AD - 1530 AD) are a Native American group from pre-Columbian times , which persist in the peninsular comuneros, who settled in the coastal region of Ecuador and extended from the island Puná near Guayaquil, on part of the province of Guayas, and the current province of Santa Elena and south of the province of Manabí. On the coast we find the remains of two entirely different cultures. "In the province of Manabi, in a dry and arid strip extending from the equator south towards Guayaquil, there developed a unique civilization which apparently suffered but little from Incasic influence. In northern Manabi and along the coast of the province of Esmeraldas there are the remains of another distinct culture." .
