Continuing where Mitford's "The Pursuit of Love" left off, Fanny Logan now reminisces on her cousin Polly, only child of the idly aristocratic Lord and Lady Montadore. When a scandalous marriage (to her own uncle, an old pedophilic lecher) leads Polly to total ostracization, the entrance of flamboyant family heir Cedric only serves to spark more trouble... or so it seems. As usual, love allows everyone to find the way to a happy ending. While the novel's take on British high society is satirical, it is notable for depicting an openly (albeit stereotypically, by today's standards) homosexual character, rare for mainstream media at the time.
