Title page in red and black, browning (heavier to initial leaves), a few spots, occasional contemporary or early pen underlining. Bound in contemporary vellum with gilt stamp to spine, soiled, hinges cracked but holding, covers soiled, with a nick in one place, small tears to head and tail of spine. Appended to this edition of Vavassor's work on comedic style is a variety of supplementary material, including his 'Antibarbarus', selected letters of J.L. Guez de Balzac, and letters and poems of Gilles Ménage. Vavassor (1605-1681) has been described as one of the best stylists and humanists of his time.
