This is number 52 of an edition limited to 60 copies. Top edges mostly unopened. Green quarter cloth binding over paper-covered boards. An exemplary copy. First thus. Ransom ("Private Presses and Their Books"), p.343, notes two titles printed by Merrymount in 1903, both published by Goodspeed, but neglects to cite this title.

Inscribed "The Simpson family You saw most of these faces at Green Know on 26 April 2001 Diana Boston" Book in Near Fine condition, Dust Jacket Good/VG. Has very little wear but crinkly with a crease down the back, some dents and a purple stain on back by bar code. See photos.

Scenes and stories include Martha Washington pouring tea, the surrender of Cornwallis, Washington Crossing the Delaware, Lafayette dancing the Minuet, Moll Pitcher, Betsy Ross, Paul Revere's ride, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Jones, the Battle of Bunker Hill, Ben Franklin's arrival in Philadelphia, and the courtship of George Washington. The children depicted in these illustrations are plump and rosy-cheeked and have meticulous costuming. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .

An exceptional copy in collectors condition, the 2nd of Shepard's bibliographical works following on Drawn from Memory. Many of Shepard's drawings adorn the pages. A very fine book, small smudge at the bottom edge. Internally book is pristine (as new) with no marks internally. Tight binding and seems unread. Clear red top stain.
