This book has elements of treason, implied, and romance, muted, in high places insinuated in a not very menacing fashion around Maculan -- an inventor from abroad -- who contributed some valuable arms inventions; and Vincent who infiltrated his way into the business after Maculan's sudden and questionable death via his daughter Jenny, a rather defenseless girl who never seems to wonder about anything. Until Vincent dies, also suddenly, leaving proof of adultery with a very common woman as well as debts and evidence that he had been on the other side of NATO. Police officer Mark Vail goes over his papers, and Jenny, and finally attempts to prod her conveniently lapsed subconscious. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
