Green coloured boards with gilt writing on the spine. Slight fading of the spine section, previous owner's name in ink on front paste down, offset tanning on front and rear free end pages, handling marks to the front edge, untrimmed bottom edge of text block. A picture can be provided to helplessness condition. Translated from the French by Veronica Lucas. The biography/history of Madame De Stael, French emigre fleeing Napoleon's regime. The book deals with her life in two parts, 1766-1795 and in England from 1795 to 1800. Quoted in the book are some of Madame De Staels' work. . Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
