About This Item
New York: Vantage Press, 1990. Civil War fictional account of POW John McPhail, a Scottish Highlander immigrant, who treats President Lincoln's son with a madstone (stone from a wild animal's stomach) and secures his freedom, promising not to fight for the Confederacy. An interesting story of Scottish immigrants struggling to find their place in America, this tale also espouses anti-war sentiment, as more Americans lost their lives in the Civil War than in any war before or since. The author has inscribed and signed the book (To Nancy) on the front free endpaper. A very fine copy, 79 pages, with errata replacement page laid in at page 62.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Fine/Fine.
