Justin Todd's brilliantly original book illustrations have earned him a unique reputation in the past decade (then 1978). A striking combination of dream and nightmare,of fantasy and magic, the 40 (includes 1 colour+2 b/w vignettes, colour frntis vignette,half-page colour illus to intro, front+rear wraps colour illus) plates reproduced in this book reveal an artist of vivid imagination and exceptional talents, whose best work is here gathered into one volume form for the first time.
Michael Justin Todd (b1932).Works as Justin Todd, born in New Malden, Surrey, son of a Post Offce engineer.Studied painting at Wimbledon College of Art (1949-53) and, after army service, illustration at the Royal College of Art (1955-58).He assisted Edward Bawden on murals for Morley College,London (1958-59). Part-time lecturer in graphics at Tunbridge Wells School of Art (1963-64),and in illustration at Brighton Polytechnic (from 1964). He has worked as a freelance illustrator and designer since 1960.
Since 1972 he has concentrated on cover illustrations for paperback books specialising in mysticism and horror (including the Fontana Tales of Terror series from 1974).Among these have been many striking images of dream and fantasy, often symbolist or surrealist in feeling and sometimes, incorporating allusions from art history. He avoids direct references to nature wherever possible, and instead manipulates his component images into tightly structured yet freely imaginative designs. He works in black and white and full colour.
Since April 2013,again in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering its prices, weight allowances, dimensions and lowered its compensation rates too!
