One of the first Hungarian chess magazines was edited in 1911 by János Gajdos . In 1916, due to the war, its publication was interrupted, and in 1917 it was restarted by István Abonyi , but it only operated until 1919. In 1922, the chess player László Tóth of Kecskemét, the mayor of Kecskemét restarted the paper for the third time, the first unified Hungarian Chess Associations an official publication. Under the care of László Tóth, the Hungarian Chess World has developed into a significant European chess newspaper, publishing articles in German in most of its issues, with a whole series of appendices and books as co-publications. The monthly magazine, which was published continuously until 1950, was published by well-known domestic and foreign authors, and its editor corresponded with chess publishers all over the world. The paper played a significant role in the development of Hungarian chess to an international standard. The three decades of the operation of the Hungarian Chess World were the heyday of newspaper and book publishing in Hungarian chess life.
