Water staining to front board edges.

Very lightly tanned free end papers. The cut edges are slightly tanned. Very good firm, square, untanned text block. No inscriptions etc.

Tightly bound with faint thumb-marking throughout. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. Mild thumb-marking present. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking to boards. Heavy tanning to spine, which has mild crushing and tearing to ends. Book has forward lean. Boards are mildly warped.

Clean hardback tightly bound in olive green cloth with black titles, cloth has minor rubbing at corners, browning at closed page edges, fox spotting at closed page edges, no inscriptions. 320 pages, contains 10 short stories. No publishers date, but we think this is a first printing from 1928, as there is no mention of 'Blood royal' (1929) in the list of previously published books, and Ward Lock were in the habit of dating reprints, but not firsts .
