Description:
Finland: Self-published, 1943. No Binding. Fine. An attractive and early etching by Tuulikki Pietilä. One a few images which were originally submitted by the artist as possible illustrations for the novel, Me Emme Lannistu (1943), by Finnish author Viena Korhonen. Signed in pencil, lower right and to the lower left the artist has written "Me emme lannistu" also in pencil. This inscription is extremely significant as it suggests the possibility that this may be one of the original images submitted by the artist. The copy held by the National Gallery of Finland, e.g. is a larger edition and titled "Partisaani" with no such reference to the book (although the origins of the piece are acknowledged in the catalogue). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 17 x 30 cm approx. Image size, 11.5 x 13.5 cm. There is a small chip to the frame top left corner and a few smaller marks around the edging. Not examined under glass, the etching itself appears to be in Fine condition. A… Read More
