New York: Harper & Brothers, 1882 Book. Illus. by 29 Maps, Including One Colour Map. Fair. 3/4 Leather on Cloth Boards. First American Edition. 6 x 9 Inches. This book has a highly decorated spine with raised bands, and gilt decoration and lettering. Brown 3/4 leather on chestnut cloth boards. The front cover bears an embossed gilt shield which reads "Davenport School for Boys, Portland Manor, St. John, N.B." Inside the cover there is a label indicating that the book had been awarded to a student for Latin in 1892. The other endpaper has a newspaper clipping indicating the list of prize winners at Davenport School for that year. Renowned geologist, George Matthew, won prizes for Latin, English, French and Prayer Book History. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Front hinge badly broken at title page. Leather is scuffed and worn, and several signatures are loose (first signature is hanging by a single thread). The pages are clean, and there is no writing or foxing. 434 pp. including index..
