A peek at the critic's vast personal collection, the best collection of its kind ever published thus far. Vince Aletti is the photography critic of The New Yorker Magazine and a brilliant prose stylist. His devotion to the male specimen is lovingly captured by his book, which includes a Centerfold that folds out into a panoramic view of his New York apartment, overflowing with books, photographs, and art, with barely an inch of space left for physical navigation. Aletti's obsession is the male face, body, and most important of all, aura, an appreciation not so much of nudity as of the Masculine Ideal. The pervasive notion that sexuality and gender identity are fluid and exist in a spectrum presupposes and affirms - rather than negates - the spectrum model, which necessarily has two opposite ends within which such fluidity thrives: 100% heterosexuality on one end versus 100% homosexuality on the other; 100% masculine on one end versus 100% feminine on the other. Otherwise, there is no such thing as a spectrum at all. In our "transgender", "non-binary", "pansexual", and whatever-else time, the traditional ideals of masculine and feminine are, ironically enough, thereby reinforced rather than undermined. Aletti celebrates masculinity without any defensiveness whatsoever: "For me, it's about what men are, how they act, and why" (Vince Aletti). An absolute "must-have" title for erotic art photography collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated (shortly after publication), and inscribed in black ink-pen on the page opposite the title page by the author: "For Charlie, Thanks for adding 'Male' to your collection, Vince Aletti 12.3.08". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. The recipient, who is named, is unmistakably personally known to the author. Aletti did only one signing, in New York City, to launch the book. This title is a contemporary erotic art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, post-publication dated, and inscribed copy of the Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online command almost $1000 because the book is rare in any condition. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. 270 plates. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 0971548064.
