London: Chapman & Hall, 1911. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 427 pages, indexed. Fifth and cheaper edition. Olive boards, gilt title and gilt decorations on spine. The head of the spine strip has a small remnant of brown paper at the head and a small ink stain towards the tail; there is a bookplate on both the front and back end paper; the blank page is discoloured around the edges; the fore-edge foxed and the head of the back paste down is lightly damaged, possibly from the removal of a label. Overall an attractive copy, clean and solid. "Deeply interested in the development of mankind, Wells wrote Mankind in the Making to present his general theory of social development and of social and political conduct. In the mind of the British public, this novel established Wells as a leading advocate for social progress."
