England: N.p., 1740. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Oblong Octavo. Contains about 27 pieces of music (mostly minuets and exercises) on 38 pages along with 16 pages on 8 leaves containing hand-ruled blank scores. Hardcover bound in early full leather with rules embossed in blind round a central panel. The binding is worn and has some chipping on the spine. The fore edges of the boards are a bit bowed out. An early bookplate on the front pastedown is for "Steuart of Allanton" with a crest showing two Lions and has a motto on the top of "Aspera Juvant" and a motto on the crest reading, "Virtutis Proemium." This may be Henry Steuart of Allanton (1759-1836) who was a Scottish agriculturalist and a scholar. The front pastedown also has written, "the younge lady's bugun the 13 day of Aprile 1738." There is handwritten a title leaf which reads, "Libris in Bibliotheca Jeane & Gulielma / Nissetius, duobus (Liber viz) aquabis / Septembris viginti & nona / Anno Domini 1740. Some of the songs are "Mr. Lessly's Minuet," Gemeniam's Minuet," "Minuet in Anadne," "Lord Aberdours minuet," Miss Forester's minuet," "Duke Hamilton's minuet," "Capt. Rose's minuet," Lady Katharine Steuart's minuet," "The 20th of December," and others.
