About This Item
New York: City Directory Office, 50 Greene Street, 1870. Good + condition. Unusual separately issued lithographed map of New York City from 119th Street to the Battery, with a lovely depiction of Central Park, as well as parts of New Jersey, Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Green Point), Queens (Long Island City, Astoria, New Astoria, Ravenswood), Blackwells Island, and Ward's Island.
Central Park shows Croton Lake Reservoir flanked by receiving reservoirs, the Parade Ground, Botanical Gardens, Cricket Ground, Ramble and Skating Pond. Blackwells Island shows the hospital, penitentiary, alms houses, workhouse and lunatic asylum.
The city's street grid plan is shown, with Broadway joining Bloomingdale Road at the corner of Central Park, along with squares, parks, important buildings, the Harlem Rail Road & the Hudson River Rail Road lines, piers and ferry lines. Usually issued with Trow's New York City Directory, this map was issued as a separate map.
Image measures 19" x 33.25", paper measures 21 x 35". Some minor loss at fold intersections; the panel with Jersey City slightly toned, 2 small holes; nevertheless a wonderful bright, clean unusual map of New York City. OCLC: 50644485 records 5 copies.
