With images in the four corners representing the continents and at top centre representing Helios, the sun. The map has an older mounting on linen with ribbon edging, now coming loose. There is a discolored area at upper left in the decorative border; this is much more accentuated in the digital image than appears with the eye. Discoloration to linen backing; overall toning and scattered light foxing. The cartouche shows the publishing date as year 7 of the French Republic (1799). Other works by C (citoyen) Brion and C Clermont (another cartographer) are listed. On the map are shown the journeys of explorers including those of Captain Cook. A most decorative and interesting map. .
