Publication of 261 pages. There is gilt on the spine and on the front cover, as well as on the page edges. The boards are a little shelf rubbed. There is light foxing on the early and last pages. The first edition, first issue, with the speech on page 151 starting 'What Crimes' and lasting for five and a half lines.Half-title is present.One leaf of adverts to the rear.'Marino Faliero, Doge of Venice' is a blank verse tragedy by Byron, inspired when he was looking at portraits of the Doges in Venice in the Palazzo Ducale, and saw that the portrait of Faliero had been blacked out. Byron's play is set in Venice in 1355, with Faliero having been recently elected as Doge of Venice, and follows Faliero through is failed coup d'etat and subsequent execution.Including the poem 'The Prophecy of Dante'.Gift inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'To Capt.
