The first series of drawings and photographs of fine examples of architectural details. 10" x 13". Ivory cloth boards with red title label with gilt stamped lettering. Internals clean and fox-free. Previous owners' inscriptions on the flyleaf and the title page. Some light soiling and wear to covers and a lttle bumping of corners. Binding is tight and hinges sound.

Contains a foreword by Pepler plus a list of the items in the exhibition, three with hand written notes, including prices for the items. Printed on Caslon O. F white paper, sewn. Loosely inserted is a hand printed invite to the private preview on Sunday may 5th, 2.30-6pm. (one sheet, 10.9 x 3.8 inches, folded once). Interesting Oil Portrait In Color, On Weber Artist Canvas Board, No. 11 Roman Drill Surface, 18" X 24", Apparently Cut To This Size, Manufactured By F. Weber Co. Philadelphia, All According To The Yellow Label Mounted On The Very Worn Black Backing. An Attractive Portrait, Apparently Of Geirge Orwel Circa 1932L, Leaning On His Left Hand And Staring Somewhat Belligerently But Resignedly At Viewer, Left Hand Has Not Been Finished. This Appears To Be A Portrait Of A Younger Orwell Than Usually Seen, Circa Early 1930'S, An Intense Young Man With A Small Mustache, Eyebrows Thinner And Higher Than Usually Seen, But With His Distinctive Right Ear Present. The Portrait Is Not Clearly Orwell In The 1920'S Or 1940'S, But Compares Favorably With The Few Early 1930'S Photographs Of Him That We Have Seen. The Same Lithographic Plate, With Image Trimmed At Top And Bottom, Was Used For The Frontispiece To The Limited Edition Book Edited By Merle Armitage, "21 Statements" , 1936, The First Book Printing Of Two Magazine Articles By Picasso. This Example Of The Full, Untrimmed Lithograph Is From Napolitano's Own Collection. Napolitano Studied At Chouinard And Otis To 1925, Worked With Herman Sachs And Later On His Own Doing Architectural Murals (Los Angeles City Hall, The Miami Beach Biltmore, And Many Prominent Buildings And Estates), Studied Ceramics In Ny And Painting In Germany, And After Returning To Los Angeles In 1933 Began Working In All Media, Including Many Murals For The Wpa, Where He Met Armitage, Who Published A Book About Him In 1935.
