New York: Printed for the Author, 1862. Hardcover. Good + overall. Thomas DeVoe was a butcher at Jefferson Market (6th Avenue and Christopher Street) in New York City from 1833-1877. An interesting book describing hundreds of products sold at the markets including calves eyes, moose, skunk, swan, woodpecker, eagle, whale, turtle, milkweed, cedar berries, truffles, etc. Laid down at ffep are news clippings from 1891 and 1892 relating to the author (some loosely inserted), and an ALS to T. Morrell concerning engravings. Volume 1 covers New York City, Volume II apparently never published. 8vo, xiv, 591pp, index pp593-621. Presentation copy signed by the author, 3/4 brown morocco, with 5 raised bands on spine, gilt title. 'Dennis De Coursey from the Author' imprinted in gilt on front cover. News articles and ALS affixed with tape and glue, marbled endpapers. Spine rubbed, foot chipped, foredges chipped and rubbed, interior clean. amy ny6 5.5.
