Memphis, Tenn: Davis Printing Company, 1933. First Edition. Wraps. Brown stapled stiff paper covers with yapp edges, red and silver lettering with tipped in photo of 1st Lieut. John McGavock Grider on front cover, 8vo, 111 pp. Illustrated with photographs. Signed by the author on the half title page. Personal narrative of Grider (1892-1918) by his sister, including letters he sent to family members. John McGavock Grider enlisted in the Army when the U.S. entered World War I and after training as a pilot served in the 85th Squadron of the Royal Air Force with friends Lawrence Callahan and Elliott Springs. The 85th, commanded by Major William Bishop, was assigned to the Armentieres section in France. Grider was killed in action June 18, 1918. Grider's war-time diary was used by Elliot Springs for his novel "War Birds". No marks in book, binding tight. Covers show minor wear to yapped edges, 1/4" spot of ink on front cover, 1" tear to photo on front cover. Book condition VG.
