From jacket: Martine is the daughter of an artist who, like many other artist, needs someone to look after him. Fortunately, Martine is clever and thoughtful and can solve some of the problems that perplex her small household. But without the help of Michel, a sturdy peasant boy who enjoys being detective on occaision, she couldn’t solve them all. Together the two children decide what is to be done about the bull calf Butterfly, and Bobo, the baby bear, and Jeanot, the donkey, and the beloved dog that has been stolen. And they find a way to sell Father’s pictures. The author recently visited at a farm in the Jura Mountains, where the animals lived in a building adjoining the house, and the people and animals together suggested this story.
