About This Item
Master Humphrey's Clock was a weekly periodical edited and written entirely by Charles Dickens and published 1840-41. It is 12 short stories. Master Humphrey is a lonely man who starts a club, called Master Humphrey's Clock (the clock was his storage place for manuscripts). Members read their manuscripts to each other and membership includes Mr. Pickwick.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood is the book that Dickens was writing when he died.
This copy is one of Dickens Complete Works, Centennial Edition, published by Heron Books in 1970. As is the case with all Heron books, it is gorgeous. It doesn't say so in this copy, but Heron usually used wood-free paper. It is beautifully bound, in dark green leather (or leatherette) with brilliant gilt on the cover and spine. Bound-in gold yellow silk bookmark. Containing several of the original illustrations by Phiz. 447 pages, 5" x 8" x 1". Produced in Switzerland.
It is unread and, on the inside, pristine. It's pristine on the outside too but, on the front seam, the leather has split. It's a clean break and, at first glance, you can't see it. It doesn't interfere with reading the book either. It's just a flaw--a bindery or printer can fix it in a few minutes.
