London: Jonathan Cape,, 1988. Signed by the author Octavo. Original red boards, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Illustrations by Quentin Blake. Spine a little cocked, spine ends and one tip a little bumped. A very good copy, contents clean, in the bright dust jacket, one tip slightly chipped, with a little creasing to extremities and some small marks to front flap, not price-clipped. First edition, first impression, signed by the author on the half-title. Matilda won the Children's Book Award in the year of its publication. It formed the basis for both the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and the successful stage musical which premiered at the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010.
