Edition of 20: 10 portfolio sets; 10 book sets. Colophon: "Cyrano De Bergerac was the true life inspiration for the romantic figure of Edmond de Rostand's 19th century plan and one of the more curious thinkers in early modern Europe. He was a satirist, swordsmen, poet, and philosopher who indeed had a prodigious appendage. The book, excerpts of which are translated here under the title Journeys to the Moon and Sun, consist in equal parts of sci fi, philosophical speculation, metaphysical drama, theological humor, and freak show satire. The scales of the world are turned upside down and found to be wanting. " David Berona, Image & Narrative, "Art Hazelwood: A Graphic Witness of…

- Used
Andoversford, Gloucestershire: Whittington Press, 2012. Thirty-nine volumes, comprising thirty-five original volumes, plus the reprints of Volumes 1 and 2, as well as the index volume (1-21) and the offprint index for volumes 1 through 5. Limitation varies between thirty and eighty copies. A complete set of the deluxe issues of this invaluable periodical, one of only thirty possible sets. Printed at the Whittington Press. Illustrated profusely, including many printing samples, and with the extra information, illustrations, and samples that typically accompany the deluxe issue. Matrix has become by far the finest periodical of the book arts produced in the twentieth century, surpassing even the seven-volume Fleuron issued in the 1920s. The contents include both retrospective material (Eric Gill, et al.) and information about presses active today. Volumes 1 and 2, far more limited than the later issues, have become very rare indeed. Bound in morocco-backed patterned papers. All volumes have slipcases, except for Volumes 1 and 2, as issued. A few volumes show light sunning, else fine.

Description:
New York:: Haybarn Press,, 2005.. Edition of 90. 9 x 12" with 36 pages, numbered and signed by the translator and the artist. A full-color frontispiece on Fabriano Uno. Poetry in English typeset in Palatino by Spring Salvin. Letterpress printed by Bradley Hutchinson. Drawings printed duotone lithography by Omega. Housed in clamshell box in full cloth Canapetta with silver stamping. A new publication from Haybarn Press in honor of the 92nd birthday of Abraham Sutzkever, the foremost living Yiddish poet. The portfolio of eighteen poems were translated by Melvin Konner and include seven drawings by Ed Colker. From the introduction, Translator's note: "These translations try to convey a unique group of poems by one of the greatest modern poets. That they evoke so thoroughly the magic, poignancy, tragedy, nobility and strangeness of Africa is achievement enough. That they do it in Yiddish - with its ironic, diffident stance, and its, well, Jewishness - is astonishing. Yet…

Description:
New York: The Limited Editions Club. Near Fine. 1995. Limited Edition. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Volume is handbound in burgundy linen and the solander box covered in black Italian cotton. The inset is Nigerian goatskin and the title stamped in 22-karat gold. The book is in NF condition with a few slight marks visible on the…

Description:
The first-ever appearance in print of James Joyce's Story for Children, THE CATS OF COPENHAGEN in a special limited edition of 200 copies. Michael Caine has printed this large-format letterpress edition with virtuoso skill, setting the text in a wondrously expressive array of original, early twentieth-century hand-cut Italian and French founts to capture the imagination of readers young and old. Casey Sorrow has brought to life Joyce's curious 'Københavnere' with ingeniously playful pen-and-ink drawings, specially commissioned, and printed by typographique cliché.
This Numbered issue, printed on Fedrigoni Freelife Vellum, is in double-elephant sextos and hand-bound in one-quarter cloth over marbled boards.
