London - Sampson Low, 1861 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A nicely bound copy of this poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Illustrated throughout from drawings by E V Boyle. With the bookplate of one John Taylor Bottomley to the front pastedown. The May Queenis one of Tennyson's earlier poems and is based around as the title suggests, the 'May Queen',the personification ofthe May Day Holiday. Alfred, LordTennyson was a prolific and popularpoetremembered for hispenning of short lyrics such as 'The Charge of the Light Brigade'. Much of his work were based on classical mythological themes. He wasPoet Laureate for much of Queen Victoria's reign. Condition: In original full cloth binding with gilt stamping to front board and spine. Externally, vert smart. Small amount of bumping to the head and tail of spine. Spine and board edges have faded. In a protective brodart wrap. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown, John Taylor Bottomley. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are bright with the odd spot throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD..
