New York: The Derrydale Press, [1939]. LIMITED FIRST EDITION, one of only 1075 hand-numbered copies. Illustrated with very handsome drawings by Ralph Boyer & Milton C. Weiler, as well as by black and white photographs on glossy plates. Tall 8vo, publisher's original green and blue patterned cloth, the upper cover with gilt lettering and a gilt line with fly, the spine with a blue cloth label gilt lettered. 195 pp. A fine and appealing copy, just a light bit of age, the binding, the text-block, the illustrations all in very pleasing condition. LIMITED FIRST EDITION ON FLY-FISHING AND A CHARACTERISTICALLY APPEALING DERRYDALE PRODUCTION. The quality of the writing, the material, and the printing are all what one expects from the Derrydale Press. Author Eugene V. Connett was creator of the Derrydale Press and at one point described to Time Magazine that he got the Derrydale name "from a bottle of whiskey and a map of Ireland." It was the only publishing house in the world devoted exclusively to sporting books.

London: George Routledge and Sons, [1872]. Very Rare First Edition. With all first issue points that are verifiable. Small 8vo, handsomely bound in three-quarter brown morocco over marbled paper covered boards, the spine with raised bands gilt ruled, gilt lettered in two compartments. 150 pp. A fine copy, beautifully preserved, clean and fresh and the binding tight and strong. Endleaves replaced during the rebinding process. RARE FIRST EDITION. A very elusive book. The first printing is identifiable by several points: it must have the Bradbury, Evans imprint on the verso of the title-page and on the final page of text, blank endleaves and a final blank leaf all without ads. There must be no statement by Twain on the title page relative to the authorization of Routledge as London publisher, the publisher's name must not be followed by "Limited", and the publisher's address must be "The Broadway, Ludgate" and not "The Broadway, Ludgate Hill". The book was originally issued as a… Read More

IN THE SCARCE FIRST ISSUE DUSTJACKET, with the $2.50 price and with “Recent Fiction” on the back cover. 301pp. A fine copy, pristine and unused, the varnished black cloth shiny and fresh with only a tiny amount of marking that is common to the varnish and almost no wear whatsoever, the text clean and solid and fresh. The jacket, which is quite scarce, is still very bright and attractive. The front and rear panels of the dustjacket are in quite excellent condition, bright, clean and complete, the spine panel shows a bit of evidence of shelving at the foot, and a bit of wear at the head, but this is a very pleasing and attractive copy of an important book. A FINE COPY IN SCARCE ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET OF JOHN O’HARA’S FIRST BOOK. One of the Modern Library’s Top 100 books of the… Read More
