The Preface in the first volume states, inter alia: "It is convenient and opportune that, simultaneously with this, the Fifth Edition of Volume I, a new edition, the Third of Volume II., thoroughly revised, is placed at the disposal of readers and co-workers in the mining industry at home and abroad.". Volume One: Pp xxviii, 428 with a steel engraved frontispiece and plate leaves [many folding] with 252 illustrations. Volume Two: Pp xviii, 334 with a steel engraved frontispiece and plate leaves [many folding] with 258 illustrations. Between them the two volumes also have a total of 65pp of mining-related advertisements, several of which are also illustrated. Original bindings of gilt & black-decorated brown cloth-covered boards/gilt titles. Some rubbing to cloth edges and corners and surface creasing to the lower part of the front board of the second volume. Internally very good. A scarce and important work, these volumes are vastly superior in content to the cheap modern reprints currently available.. 5th & 3rd Editions, Thoroughly Revised. Gilt-decorated Cloth.
