Kjøbenhavn : C.A. Reitzel A complete run of the early volumes of this scientific study of Greenland undertaken from 1878 and continuing to the present day. Mostly written in Danish it is notable for the extensive issue of detailed coloured maps of unmapped regions of the Greenland coast together with many atmospheric lithographed plates of exploration on the ice and frozen landscapes. Other important contributions include works on native language with a grammar and dictionary, the material culture of the inhabitants (profusely illustrated) and archaeological surveys of standing buildings. This is an ex-library copy originally belonging to the Mineralogical Society and then the University of Liverpool. Bound in uniform dark-blue buckram with gilt titles to spine. Plates and maps collated complete and in almost pristine order. Library label to fpd, blind stamp to title page, occasional stamps of the Society on blank pages and margins. Accession marks carefully removed from the spine, some edge wear to boards throughout,slightly frayed on one volume. bindings firm, text-blocks in excellent order. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".
