Thomas Dobson, William Fry, Printer. Good. 1816. First Edition. Hardcover. Bound in full brown calf with red leather label. Spine gilt is faded. Text is tight, intact and somewhat age toned. [466pp, 22]. Both hinges cracked with covers firmly attached. Spine is darkened: ends & corners rubbed. Small dampstain on front margin of last few pages only. Includes "Preface to the First Edition of the First Volume," published in Warrington, England in 1792. Vols 2 and 3 appeared in 1795 and 1798 in Manchester. This Philadelphia ed is apparently based on the altered and enlarged 2nd London ed of 1810-13 in 4 vol. Ferriar was the first to suggest that digitalis was beneficial in dropsy (severe congestive heart failure). Croup, Hooping Cough, Diabetes, Syphilis. Etc. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 466 pages .

Octavo, vi, 466 pp. Good; bound in contemporary leather with some cracking to spine hinges and wear to corners; boards slightly shaken but binding else tight; text block has some areas of discoloration; pages show deep age-toning and foxing; previous owner bookplate on inside front pastedown "Charles Robert Bree;" previous owner name in pencil, ink stamp and in handwritten ink on ffep and title page "Mann Page Nelson M.D.," "M*P*NELSON" and "Mann P. Nelson M.D. 1822;" MF consignment. 1356539. Special Collections.
