1690 1ed Robert Boyle Hydrostatic Experiments Chemistry Specific Gravity Physics
While mostly known for his contributions to natural philosophy and science, Robert Boyle was highly interested in theology, devoting much of his time to studying the existence of God, using his philosophical and even scientific discoveries as evidence. Boyle also published a collection of pamphlets in which he discussed magnetism and electricity, many of which were direct refutations of Aristotelian philosophy. Other treatises covered physics, hydrostatics, and specific gravity.
'Medicina Hydrostatics', a work on hydrostatics, is the first edition of the "first tract in English upon the determination of specific gravity." (Fulton). This work includes an account of the history of mineralogy and the effects of specific gravity on ore. This volume also includes the rare publisher's 'catalogue' which is not found in most copies of this first edition. Exceedingly rare!
The 'Printing and the Mind of Man' call Boyle "the best-known English scientist of his day, and the greatest experimental scientist of the mid-17th-century." (PMM 141).

Saint Venerable Bede was an English monk during the 7th- and 8th-centuries. He is most remembered for his ecclesiastical work on the history of English people, in which he discusses the establishment and growth of the church throughout the known world. He also wrote important commentaries on the books of the Bible. This work explains relevant Biblical passages, as well as describes the allegorical notes of Church Fathers. However, he did not write exclusively of church theology. He also wrote on the development of time and ideas of cosmology.
This 16th-century Latin edition was published in Paris by Roigny. An impressive, three-volume folio set!
