Princes Street, Soho, London: John Churchill A good copy of a very scarce work - undated but the 1st edition, published in 1836. With 15 hand coloured plates. George Spratt was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, and also an artist, illustrating a 2 volume Flora Medica in 1829. He wrote on vegetable poisons. This copy is in the original cloth binding with leather title label to the front board. The spine has a new title label and has been repaired. The original endpapers are present (the fep is a little fragile with a small hole) with a signature dated 1855. Contents: title page with hand coloured vignette; preface 2pp; index 2pp; introduction pp vii-x; text pp 1-91; Appendix on corrosive poisons pp 93-118. The text is illustrated with 15 hand coloured plates and the appendix has illustrations to the experiments which have had some hand colouring to demonstrate experimental outcomes. The binding has slight cloth rippling and slight marking. Contents have light toning to page edges. Around 5 of the plates are slightly smaller and have some marking in the gutter - suggesting that the plates were perhaps issued separately in wraps. Plate 13 has the title overwritten in pencil. There is marking in the gutter at pp 50/51 and 62/63. There is occasional pencil noting and underlining. Pp 100-104 in the Appendix have some light marking.
