Description:
London: Trubner & Co., 1859. First edition, United Kingdom. Fine. Small 8vo, 140pp. Green stamped buckram cover, with gilt title on spine. Interior is very clean and bright, no fox spotting. This satiric poem, written in a rustic New England dialect, was submitted to The Boston Courier. It was inspired by Lowell's opposition to the recruiting drive for the Mexican American War; it also established him as a leader of the antislavery movement.
