Octavo, 9 1/4" tall. xii + 864 pages, embossed brown cloth, previous owner's name on front endpaper, gilt title on spine. A good, clean, hardcover first edition overall BUT with fraying to backstrip ends, boards exposed along bottom edges and top corners, hinges cracked and frontispiece portrait removed; yet binding is solid and paper clean and lightly yellowed. A good reading copy.
