1672 Edward Burrough QUAKER Sermons anti Puritan Charles II England Bunyan FOLIO

Edward Burrough was a 17th-century Quaker preacher most remembered for his debates with John Bunyan and for his deliberate breaking of the Quaker Act which landed him in prison. His impact on the Quaker community was quite vast – traveling extensively throughout England preaching and converting people to the Society of Friends. One of his most important acts was requesting that King Charles II offer relief of Puritan persecution for the Quakers in New England in America.

Following his death, his collected works were published under the title 'The Memorable Works of a Son of Thunder'. This 1672 edition of Burrough's works includes testimonial accounts by several other authors describing Burrough's life.

Description:
1942 SUPERMAN 1ed Superhero Graphic Novel DC Comic Lowther Color Illustrated
"When Superman came out, it galvanized the entire industry. It's just part of the American scene. Superman is going to live forever."
― Jack Kirby, Comics Journal
Superman is one of the most popular fictional superheroes of all time, published by DC Comics. Superman appeared in various radio shows, newspaper comics, and eventually television and movie premiers. Because of his popularity, the name Superman has become synonymous with the American comic book. The book is the first novelization of a comic book character, and the first Superman story written by someone other than Jerry Siegel. It was Lowther who first provided many now-familiar details of Superman's birth and early life.
This 1942 first book edition by Random House features nine full-page illustrations with all 4 color illustrations.

1887 FOLIO Rime of Ancient Mariner Coleridge Gustave Dore & Paton Illustrated

Known as one of the English Lake Poets, Samuel Taylor Coleridge was one of the most notable 19th-century English romance poets. Coleridge's longest poem was 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'. This poem was one of the most important poems written at the end of the 18th-century, as it was known to begin the shift from the Romantic period into the Modern period of English poetry. It describes the sea voyages of a sailor who experienced dangers, adventures, and even supernatural encounters!

This huge 1887 edition is notable for including the illustrations of Gustave Dore and Joseph Noel Paton. In addition to the highly desirable art, this edition features commentary and critical notes by Alfred Trumble.

"With many lovers of the author's works David Copperfield ranks as the finest of his writings. With a book which gave to the world such characters as Betsy Trotwood, Micawber, the Pegottys and Mr. Dick. it would be strange if it had been otherwise."

1748 ENGLISH Vauban FORTS Military Engineering Fortifications Illustrated War

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban was a 17th-century French engineer who, after serving as the Marshal of France, became known as the greatest engineer of his time. It was from his surveys and developments in fortifications that propelled him to engineering fame. In fact, his fortification philosophies were used for nearly a century after his life. Vauban understood that at some point, all forts would fall, no matter how powerful. From this, Vauban sought to improve fort designs to absorb as much of the attack force as possible, even including house and structures to support fortification walls.

This 1748 English edition of Vauban's famous "Method of Fortification" contains each of the highly desirable 32 engravings – views of forts, walls, and common attack strategies.

1603 Charlemagne & Louis Pious St Ansegisus FRANKS Monasticism Benedict Levita

Charlemagne was one of the most influential and iconic French kings. Reigning in the late 8th-century, Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, helped united most of Europe through the Carolingian Empire. Numerous historical works were published on the life and reign of Charlemagne including this early 17th-century history of the reigns of Charlemagne and his son Louis the Pious. This book is one of the best of its kind offering a complete survey of the 9th-century Franks. Published in 1603 by Chappell, it covers the Frankish monastic reforms set by Saint Ansegisus and the continuation of these laws by the unnamed pseudo-author known as Benedict Levita.
