Amsterdam: Erven van F. Houttuyn, 1772. Hardcover. Very Good. Copperplates (pictorial engraved Title + Portrait + 51 more than half page) by Jan Luiken. [or Luyken]. Small octavo calf-spined boards, spine on 5 raised bands decorated gilt with rubbed gilt label (label slightly damaged, hinges starting to split but sound). Engraved titlepage (splits without loss repaired by mounting on old paper) + printed title (small repair at top) + [10]pp prelims +[20]pp life of author etc. +103pp +[7]pp including further poems by Luiken + plate list + publisher's book list - complete. Rear pastedown has an old bill 1914 for auction purchase. Minor signs of use, several small marginal tears without loss, but neat, tight and paper crisp. *A lovely Emblem book by the Dutch engraver Luiken. The emblematic plates show children's games - dolls, knucklebones, jacks, tops, kites, archery (cross bow), skip rope, soap bubbles, hoops, sling shot, hobby horse - also GOLF (Kolf) in great detail and charming domestic scenes - being sent off to school with hornbook etc.
