About This Item
London: Religious Tract Society, n.d. (?1853). reprint. hardback. Good, reprint, no d/j, brown boards, blind tooled, gilt spine titling (fading); text block firm, pages unmarked, apart from owner's notes on pp1-2; owner's inscription on ffep (dated Jan 1853). 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). FlavelÕs book explores salvationÕs transformative effects on the heart. In the first two of the bookÕs five sections, Flavel describes how Christ and the Holy Spirit prepare a person to receive GodÕs saving grace. Following this, he describes how truly convicting the effects of the preparation can be, and how this conviction leads people to emerge stronger after struggling through despair and guilt. Overall, The Method of Grace is a wakeup call. Flavel challenges Christians to examine themselves and, instead of hiding them, let their wrongdoings horrify them so that they may truly appreciate GodÕs mercy, grace, and love.
