Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1895. Limited/Numbered Edition; First Printing. Card Covers. Slight creasing along the front joint. Spine and head edge of the back cover slightly darkened. ; Artist and polymath Michelangelo's poetry of personal relationships and personal feuds. The sonnets to Tommaso dei Cavalieri were long interpreted as possibly homoerotic and such sonnets had personal pronouns changed in early translations. Sonnets expressing love for the poet Vittoria Colonna were reciprocated until the end of her life. Other verse expresses Michelangelo's feelings about personal slights and his dismissal of those he disliked. This 1878 translation "into rhymed English" by John Addington Symonds restores the original personal pronouns of the verse and most modern scholarship holds that Michelangelo's relationships were entirely platonic. A prefatory note infers that Mosher took liberties in revising Symond's translation in minor ways to accommodate subsequent scholarship. This copy is number 26 of 50 on Japan Vellum. Bound in stiff Japan Vellum covers with Yapp edges folding and overlapping at the fore and head edges. The cover design is uncredited. Titled "The Sonnets of Michael Angelo Buonarroti" on the cover in brown Italic font over a floral design and again on the page preceding the sonnets. Comprised of a Poem, 77 Sonnets, Notes and 2 Appendices. Tissue-guarded frontispiece of "Vittoria Colonna/from a design by Michael Angelo" (Buonarroti). In this book from the Bibelot Series (not the Bibelot chapbooks), the body text is Elzevir Italic Body 8 typeface, Mosher stating, "It is the only series of Italic books ever printed in this country," Printed by Smith & Sale, Portland, Maine, likely supervised by Frank Mangum, pressman. This is an uncommonly nice copy from a series that often does not age well. Nicer still by being a limited edition on Japan Vellum. Very clean and hovers between VG+ and NF.; The Bibelot Series; Drawings; Narrow 8vo 8" to 9" tall; 1, cviii, 1 pages .

San Francisco, CA: Arion Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 1986. Limited Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. The World is Round lacks the ephemeral printed balloon. The World is Not Flat has a slight splay to the boards. The box has the slightest rubbing at the corners. The trade edition's dust jacket has sun-lightened spine, a dark spec to the front, 3/4" closed tear to the back, overall light rubbing.; The World is Round is the only children's book written by Gertrude Stein, though written to be appreciated by adults. The prose and poetry describe Rose, a French child, a cousin, dogs, a pet lion, and the blue chair that Rose carries up a hill she imagines to be a "mountain." The plot isn't the real story, which is a young girl's determination and discovery that "Rose" is simply what she is and that who she is is far deeper than that. Written in a stream of words, like one would hear from an enthusiastic child describing something important.…

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
