Harper's Weekly was the most important American pictorial newspaper in the 19th century. Because the original wood engravings in virtually every issue are highly collectible, complete issues are becoming more difficult to obtain. The issue offered here focuses on the events following the assassination of Lincoln. On the front page are articles on the assassination and the funeral along with three original wood engravings: one showing the ruins of the Garrett barn where John Wilkes Booth was shot; another showing the house where Booth died; and a third engraving of the house of Booth's co-conspirator David Herold. On the interior are multiple engravings of various Lincoln funeral sites. Overall minimal wear to the binding, but there are a few little contact marks on the front cover. A sound copy with secure inner hinges and clean text. Illustrated throughout.

Hardcovers bound in brown cloth with black and red faux labels on the spines. Collates complete with 8 folding maps, including a folding facsimile map of North America at the front of Volume I. This is a REPRINT of the 1741 edition. Bindings have light wear. The upper right corner of volume one has a small scuff and the rear board has some rubbing at the upper edge and along the hinge. Edges of both text blocks are foxed with heavy foxing on the top edges. The front hinge of volume one is loose but gutter is whole, no tears. Endpapers are foxed. The front flyleaf of each volume has the signature and blindstamp impression of Charles D. Rodenbough, a North Carolina historian. Text is foxed, has occasional light pencil marks in the margins and underlining in pencil. There are some post it flags placed in both volumes.

Paris: F. Bechet and A. Egron, 1817. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavos. xxx, 403, [2]; 394, [2] pages. Hardcovers bound in dark green half leather with marbled paper-covered boards. The bindings show some wear but are quite sound with sturdy hinges. The rear hinge on Volume 1 is scuffed with the untreated leather exposed. There is a white scuff mark on the front cover of Volume 1 at the bottom left corner. Bindings tight. Marbled endpapers. The text is a little toned and has some occasional foxing, but overall the text appears clean. Half title to Volume 1 appears to be a little loose. SIGNED Bechet (one of the publishers) on the verso of the title page to authenticate this edition as not being a pirated edition. Text is in French. A translation of the title into English is, "The Colonies and the Present Revolution of America.
